Empowering Dreams: Scholarships and Support

Harshavardhan Reddy's Exceptional Act of Kindness

We have heard of construction firms and realtors from Hyderabad laughing all the way to banks making huge profits with their projects and ventures selling like hot cakes. But Harshavardhan Reddy is an exception as he chose to donate a whopping Rs 35 lakh amount from his successful “Vihara Suravi” venture in Hyderabad outskirts as “Charity” to construction labour from his project as well as to nearly 100 students, mostly orphan girls and those having single parent.

Senior IAS M Raghunandan Rao, Secretary, Agriculture and Co-operation Department, Telangana was the Chief Guest and Environmentalist and retired Professor Purshottam Reddy was the Guest of Honour at this Thanksgiving programme held in September at the project site in Kammeta village, Chevella, Ranga Reddy district.

Financial assistance of 1 lakh was given to each workers family. Students, 95 percent of them girls, from Vikarabad, Shankarpally, Gadwal and Jangaon areas, pursuing Intermediate, UG and PG, were handed over need based scholarships ranging from Rs 10k to Rs 50k each to meet their education and financial needs.
Complimenting the Good Samaritan act, Mr Raghunandan Rao felt Harsha created a new practice in this age when businesses were solely focussing on maximizing profits. The senior IAS officer said that he was happy to have participated in such a noble cause to financially help construction labour and poor students.

Retired Professor Purushottam Reddy felt Harshvardhan was a role model for the Construction and Real Estate Sector. Pointing out that Construction sector is the 2nd biggest after Agriculture, lending a helping hand to labour and workers engaged in the project was a not an ordinary thing, Purushottam Reddy felt.

Venkat Reddy, the National Convenor for MV Foundation, which helped Vihara Suravi and Harsha Foundation in selecting the students for scholarships, said that youngsters like Harshavardhan are an inspiration for today’s generation. He said that normally NGOs and other organizations reach out to them to help students but for the first time a real estate firm had got in touch with them for a charity cause.

The man of the moment Harshavardhan pointed out that once a real estate venture turns out successful, incentives are given to employees but the construction workers are ignored. He said that workers and families from Telangana,Chhattisgarh , Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh State who worked in his project were treated with respect and paid for everyday for 365 days. He said that he decided to help girl students who were facing financial issues to pursue education. The need of the hour is supporting girl students to study and grow up in life and thus curb child marriages, he felt.

Poojitha. P (a LLB 2nd year student from Jangaon), Sunitha J (B.Com) and Soujanya (Intermediate student) from Shankarpally thanked “Harsha Annaya” (Harsha brother) for his kind act. They vowed to study well and reach good positions in life and help the needy drawing inspiration from the charity initiative.
